PostSubject: A Lecture Series on "Women and War in American History"   Thu Feb 12, 2009 6:44 pm

Tuesday, March 24, 4:00-5:30, 110 Alger Hall

Laura Prieto, Associate Professor of History, Simmons College, "Nurses for Empire: How Women Gained a Place in the U.S. Military through Wartime Nursing in War of 1898"

Laura Prieto examines the role of women as military nurses in the War of 1898. She argues that the role of women nurses in the War of 1898 (commonly known as the Spanish-American War) helped support American imperialism in this period as well as provided an entry for American women in the military.
